Merry Melodies of Christmas at SM San Lazaro

 SM City San Lazaro

This Christmas, SM City San Lazaro is celebrating the holidays by remembering all the things that make Christmas merry: Music, Laughter, Indulgence, Give Giving and the Spirit of Sharing.

SM City San Lazaro presents the MERRY MELODIES OF CHRISTMAS and to welcome the season are its 24-feet-tall Giant Drummer Boy with 9 of its 3-feet-tall Little Drummer Boys from November 10-January 6, 2013!

The centerpiece is inspired by the song written by Katherine Kennicott Davies who was from St. Joseph, Missouri.  She wrote the song “The Little Drummer Boy”, originally titled “The Carol of the Drum” in 1941 and it soared to popularity when it was recorded by the Trapp Family Singers.

This is a story of a poor young boy who, unable to afford a gift for the infant Jesus, plays his drum for the new born with the Virgin Mary’s approval.  Miraculously, the baby, although a new born, seems to understand and smiles at the boy in gratitude!

And what’s so wonderful is the fact that Katherine Davies left all of the royalties and proceeds from her compositions, which include operas, choruses, children’s operattas, cantatas, piano and organ pieces, and songs…to WELLESLEY COLLEGE’S MUSIC DEPARTMENT.  These funds are used to support musical instrument instruction.

The message SM City San Lazaro intends to send across is the art of sharing and giving.  In this year, they aim to reunite and unify. This is the time to be with people we long to be with for the whole year.

SM City San Lazaro also invites kids from different foundations and communities,  to share the true meaning of Christmas. "Giving" is not only seen through tangible things but also in what can never be bought--love, attention, honour, happiness and sacrifices. Share what you have with those who are less fortunate either through your talents, skills or knowledge.

So come to SM City San Lazaro, embrace the merry melodies of Christmas, and give a little more love this year :)
